When you work hard for something, really hard, pouring in all your time, energy, and heart, and it’s taken lightly or disregarded, it cuts deep. It’s not just disappointing; it’s disheartening. You begin to wonder if your effort even mattered, if the sleepless nights and endless determination were worth it.
But here’s the truth: those moments, as painful as they are, are also enlightening.
They show you what you’ve been too busy working to see, that you cannot keep giving everything you have to help others who disregard your efforts while neglecting yourself. You're fine. You can’t keep putting everyone else's situation first and expecting them to do the same for you.
When people minimize your sacrifices, it’s not a reflection of your worth, it’s a reminder to shift your focus. It’s a nudge from life saying, “Start putting yourself first. Stop standing in the shadows of your own effort. I'm a very selfless person. I'm always trying to help someone else. I think I have finally learned to take the same energy I’ve been giving away and invest it all into myself and not feel it's selfish to pour into myself.
I don't know where I got this servant mentality from. Everything I do is service to and for others. Never for myself.
Because the reality is, while you’ve been showing up for everyone else, they’ve been showing up for just themselves. And that’s what you should be doing, too.
This doesn’t mean you stop caring, helping, or supporting others, it means you stop depleting yourself in the process to help others. It means you finally give yourself permission to be the main priority, not the afterthought.
And when you do, you stop seeking validation from those who overlook your effort. You begin to honor yourself. You learn that your value doesn’t rise or fall based on who sees it, it is solid, unshakable, and rooted in the fact that you’ve always been the one doing most of the work, and God has shown you something valuable, that you can do it.
This is your sign: put yourself first. Not because you’ve given up on others, but because you’ve finally chosen you.
Side note: I've now learned how to make my own images and graphics. I've enhanced my résumé' One less thing that I have to ask someone else to do. And it takes just a few minutes to
do.
